A non-profit group is seeking US$1.9 million in funding from the Oregon legislature to bring a retired salvage vessel back to life. Over a 60-year career, the SALVAGE CHIEF conducted over 250 rescues, refloats and other interventions up and down the West Coast of the United States, including the removal of the EXXON VALDEZ from Bligh Reef. Currently, her owner and members of her former crew would like to see her take on a new life as a training vessel.
