Maritime Policy & Management (MPM) inaugural issues took place in 1973. On 21 June 2013, the Shipping and Logistics Education Center, Northeast Asian Logistics and Distribution Institute of Chung-Ang University, hosted a symposium in Seoul, South Korea, to celebrate 40 years of publishing research in maritime economics. In this symposium, members of the editorial board presented research papers and discussed future research directions. This special issue provides a set of papers presented at this symposium and complements an earlier special edition (Volume 40, Issue 3) edited by Heather McLaughlin and Dong-Wook Song.
