Czechs prefer coffee & chocolate drinks The hot drinks market was worth CK12.3 billion in 2002, which represented an increase of 41.6% over the review period. In volume terms, sales increased by 20% to reach 36,936 tonnes in 2002. The Czech drank mostly coffee and chocolate drinks, with tea being less popular, although herbal teas have a long tradition in the Czech Republic and continued to be very popular. The largest sector was coffee with a 79.6% volume share of the total hot drinks market in 2002. Other hot drinks was made up entirely of hot chocolate drinks, and represented the second largest sector, accounting for 16.6% of volume in 2002, whilst the tea sector remained very small, with an almost insignificant share of 3.8%. This said, the tradition of tea drinking in the Czech Republic is not strong and herbal teas remain more popular than black tea.
