This report analyses the retail market for leisure goods products, and as such sales to institutions are excluded unless otherwise specified. For the purposes of this report, Euromonitor has divided the leisure goods market into four broad sectors: 1. Books: includes encyclopaedias, dictionaries, general literature, children's books, education books, practical guides and comic books. 2. Entertainment software: dominated by sales of CDs. The market consists of CDs, both albums and singles, blank and pre-recorded videotapes, blank and pre-recorded cassettes and to a diminishing extent vinyl records. The mini disc and digital compact cassette are relatively new products in the French market. 3. Toys & games: video games represent the largest subsector. Other toy products include dolls and figures, infant toys, board games, puzzles, educational toys and electronic toys. 4. Sports equipment: consists of three main subsectors, which are clothing, footwear and general equipment Clothing and footwear include trainers and football garments. Winter sports play a leading role in the French sports equipment sector.
