摘要

We study an orthotropic cylindrical shell problem encountered in the design of composite materials: the draping of fabrics over surfaces of revolution. The fabric, a right cylinder in its initial configuration, undergoes large displacements during the draping and its radius is prescribed by the radius of a (mould) surface of revolution. With a suitable assumption we reduce components of the local displacement field from three to one. With additional assumptions on the prescribed radius, we give either a semi-analytical solution or a numerical solution using augmented Lagrangian techniques.
