The market research organization Tecnon OrbiChem Ltd., London/UK, has once again updated its World Synthetic Fibres S/Db-CHEM, with actual data to 2012 and forecasts to 2025. The study examines the past and future prospects of all fiber types, including wool and cotton, to build up a coherent global picture. The forecasts are driven by projected growth in GDP which historically has shown a remarkable correlation with fiber consumption. The expectation for 2013 is that world fiber production will accelerate, rising by 3% to around 86.2 million tons, with China again being the principal driving force, and South and Southeast Asia also increasing output. By 2020 global production is expected to reach 110.5 million tons, going on to reach around 132 million tons by 2025.
