摘要

Due to its compressible nature, the yarn cross-section undergoes many changes due to stress-strains, both longitudinal and compressive to which it is subjected. The shape of yarn cross-section plays an important role in both mechanical as well as aesthetic properties of the final textile product. The original cross-sectional shape of the yarn depends upon many factors such as: method of spinning process, the properties of fibers used, as well as process parameters such as hank of roving, twist, tension, etc. Physical measurement of yarn cross-section is a very tedious process and also not very reliable. A microscopic method has been developed by which yarn diameter is measured at every 3.6° around the surface of the yarn and from the data obtained the shape of yarn cross-section is established.
