In 2010 the US synthetic fiber industry experienced a 11.3% or 280,000 tons increase in domestic and export shipments of all manufactured fiber to 2.7 million tons, reflecting modest economic recovery. Although a comeback from 2 years of deep recession, the industry ran 24% below 2007, the year prior to the start of the recession. Domestic shipments of textile titers, primarily for apparel and non-carpet home furnishing sector increased 19.9%, following 20% declines in 2008 and 2009.
