Of the many editorial topics I touch upon during the year, the ones that ultimately result in the most feedback via letters and phone calls are those dealing with the education system—specifically the problems associated with large city schools and their seeming inability to graduate students who are at least minimally proficient in the basic subjects, especially math and English.
