In a unanimous decision, the U.S. Supreme Court overturned a Court of Appeals decision that completely barred a 62-year-old plaintiff's right to relief after she was admittedly terminated on the basis of her age. The Supreme Court ruled that after-acquired evidence of the dismissed employee copying and taking home confidential documents in violation of company policy should not prevent her from being compensated for her wrongful discharge, even though the employer would have terminated the employee based upon her misconduct.
