Changes in fish assemblages through time and space were documented by sampling 74 sites on streams in the Lower Peninsula of Michigan. The streams, mostly wadeable, had a mean width of about 30 feet. In 1993-99,58 sites were sampled that had been originally sampled in 1922-53; 10 sites sampled in 1981-86 were repeated in 1993-94, and 6 sites sampled in 1993-99 were repeated in 1994-2000. Sorenson's index of species similarity was used to compare species assemblages past and present. Sorenson's mean index for the past years of 1922-53(mean of 64 years) was 0.57, for the years 1981-86(mean of 10 years)0.54, and for the years 1933-99(mean of 4 years)0.68.
