Thermal stability and phase transformation of TiO_2 nanowires at various temperatures

In this paper, we report the successful synthesis of titanium dioxide nanowires by a hydrothermal method. The precursor, TiO_2 nanopowder, was treated in a 10 M sodium hydroxide aqueous solution at 150 ℃ for 6 h, followed by annealing at 400-900 ℃. The morphology and structural properties of the nanowires were investigated. The field-emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM) images and the X-ray diffraction (XRD) pattern showed that the nanowires transformed into an anatase structure at 500 ℃ and that the morphology of the nanowires was maintained. At 900 ℃, the nanowires transformed into a rod-like shapes with a rutile structure.
