Manufacturers of fighters are forecast to build a total of 2,895 fighters from 2012 through 2021. The value of this production is estimated at $195 billion in 2012 dollars. Annual production will remain flat in the near term, averaging just over 260 aircraft per year from 2012 through 2015. In 2016 production will begin to rise, increasing sharply through 2021 due to the impact of the Lockheed Martin F-35 program.
