摘要

Nowadays Xinjiang is an autonomous region of Popular Republic of China. During the last twenty years, its importance had an an incredible growth both in economic and political field. The repression that Beijing has adopted for decades against the Uighurs stands in this complex scenario. This population represents the original Xinjiang ethnic minority. Uighurs speak Turkish language and practice Islamic religion. Their aim is to achieve wider autonomy from the central government. They claim even for independence from China due to discriminatory policies implementation and a high level of unemployment. Wide dissatisfaction of the population led to bloody uprisings.%Lo Xinjiang è una regione autonoma della Repubblica Popolare Cinese che ha assunto nel corso degli ultimi vent'anni una crescente importanza in termini economici e politici. Sullo sfondo di questa complessa evoluzione socio-politica vi è la repressione che Pechino attua ormai da decenni nei confronti degli uiguri. Un popolo originario dello Xinjiang che rappresenta la minoranza etnica turcofona e di religione islamica, che punta al raggiungimento di una maggiore autonomia dal governo centrale, se non addirittura all'indipendenza dalla Cina. Gli uiguiri soffrono per le politiche discriminatorie e l'alto livello di disoccupazione, che hanno portato a sanguinose rivolte popolari.
