L'Occidente è intenzionato a porre fine alla missione NATO ISAF in Afghanistan entro il 2014. Il Paese sta affron-tando questo lungo processo di transizione tra tanti problemi ancora irrisolti: dalla sicurezza alla corruzione, con qualche timida speranza dopo il successo della partecipazione alle recenti elezioni presidenziali. Proprio l'appuntamento elettorale ha caratterizzato per intero il dibattito politico del Paese nell'ultimo anno, con i pesanti interrogativi legati alla successione di Karzai, che ha governato l'Afghanistan sin dalla caduta del regime dei talebani nel 2001. Al nuovo Presidente spetterà il delicato compito di decidere la natura del rapporto tra Afghanistan e comunità internazionale e quello con gli ingombranti vicini, dal Pakistan all'Iran.%At the end of 2014, NATO ISAF mission will also come to an end.
