While Dassault Aviation's RAFALE has been present in many international fighter competitions over recent years, not until 2015 did it seal the first export customer for the type, when two new export customers committed to the purchase of a combined 48 examples of the omnirole fighter. Dassault managed to firm up a contract for 24 aircraft each for both Egypt and Qatar in quick succession, providing the multi-role fighter programme with the credibility that it had previously lacked as it struggled to secure export custom for the aircraft.
