As global threats increase, many European nations support the idea of an independent and united military. Due to Europe's war-riddled past, many are of course skeptical of this and ask, how a continent with such a long history of war and division would be able to form a united military force? The truth of the matter is that such an effort has failed many times, e.g. France blocked an attempt to form the "European Defense Community" in the 1950s; and more recently, in 2011, Britain vetoed plans for a military headquarters.
