The ground-role weapon options offered by FN Herstal have taken a huge percentage of the market, representing just one area of capability growth that has taken place over the last 25 years. Ground-role weapons go up from pistols (like the FN Five seveN Mk2 of the 5.7×28mm family) to .50-calibre guns. FN SCAR, FN Five-sevenN, and FN MINIMI receive much attention from military organisations in their vision to procure increasingly cost-effective and easy-to-operate firearms. Especially SOF units intent to embark on proven weapons like the FN SCAR assault rifle family for which the Belgian manufacturer developed variants with two calibres - the FN SCAR-L in 5.56×45mm and FN SCAR-H in 7.62×51 mm - with two barrel length options for each calibre.
