The handgun represents a last resort option in the armoury of the modern warfighter as a personal defence weapon system with the sidearm being issued to soldiers, sailors, and airmen alike. However, these flexible weapon systems continue to be used by SOF in a covert capacity allowing them to carry weaponry into supposedly secure areas of operation. It is in response to this particular reason that the small arms market continues to be driven with the proliferation of compact handguns with this article providing further evidence of this trend.
