The 24th International Defence Industry Exhibition (MSPO) in Kielce, Poland, 6-9 September 2016 brings together 614 companies from 30 countries, using 27,000sqm as the showcase for products and services. MSPO is one of Europe's largest military exhibitions, with MSPO 2016 being no exception. According to the organisers, this year has broken all the records, as all eyes are on Poland and the country is attracting major players in the defence industry. Poland has ambitious programmes to modernise its armed forces, one of the biggest in Europe, with billions of dollars likely to be spent over the coming years. Several programmes are being contended for, including the procurement of new air defence systems, electronic warfare, unmanned vehicles, cybersecurity solutions, sensors, reconnaissance solutions, and communication systems.Poland's GRYF programme, for example, is an effort aimed at procuring a 12 medium-range tactical UAS, for which Thales UK and WB Electronics are proposing the WATCHKEEPER UAV. They will be combined with the ZEFIR project of four sets of MALE UAS (two sets before 2022 and two after). It was confirmed that Poland is now considering offers for ZEFIR from the US (General Atomics Aeronautical Systems, Inc.'s (GAASI) MQ-9 REAPER and MQ-1C GRAY EAGLE) and Israel (Elbit Systems' HERMES 900).
