The distinct national identities of each Latin American country is evident their individual approach to naval modernisation. Colombia, as part of their "2030 Development Plan" of their Navy, is focusing their plans to have a force of offshore patrol vessels, acquiring the Fassmer OPV 80 design, but with some modifications in comparison to the Chilean, i.e. the capacity to deploy an interceptor boat from the stern and with telescopic hangar to house a Bell 412 helicopter. Two units were already delivered by the local shipyard Cotecmar. A third unit is now under construction and the plan of the Colombian Navy is to build six vessels of the type to patrol the Colombian seas.
