Gaps in a vehicle crew's situational awareness (SA); their perception of the threats and events around them is critical to survival. Their concerns are manifold whether that be an enemy MBT formation currently out of sight and some distance away but operating on their flank; a team of RPG-ists skulking in a nearby alleyway waiting for an IFV to represent its vulnerable rear to them; or, a natural threat, such as a steep incline, which could immobilise a large, heavy MRAP-type vehicle.
