MT: Please tell us about Avena? P. Crossan: Avena works in close collaboration with the Tyndal Institute and University College Cork who have an Optical Centre of excellence of international repute. Avena has a proven record of designing unique connector hardware for extreme and challenging conditions - all our design, test and manufacturing capability is in-house - giving us complete control over quality and delivery times. Our connectors are designed without compromise, are intuitive in use and are 100% reliable. Avena produces all the optical elements inside a temperature controlled area working to tolerances inside 0.0003mm - following procedures developed after 22,000 hours R&D. Avena products originated as single-mode expanded beam product - with all the associated quality controls and design challenges and which works equally well with multi-mode. We also offer hybrid product - either different optical specifications within the same connector and or an optical/electrical combination. We are not aware of any connector supplier matching our optical performance. In Q4 2014 we shall offer customers off the shelf connector shell options in Titanium, Aluminium, Stainless or PEEK at affordable prices.
