Check point operations, entry point operations, and convoy protection all have in common the need to stop a vehicle from posing a potential danger. Yet this must be carried out without endangering the occupants. In most of the cases, there is not (or at least not yet) a clear and definite evidence that these individuals are a "real" threat. Law enforcement forces have a similar requirement, as criminals and violators must be taken in custody to be judged, rather than be killed on the spot. Another risk to be avoided is that the car being stopped can run out of control and become dangerous for anybody around, including own forces and innocent bystanders. High-speed chases are a severe risk for all. This article depicts selected technologies available in this field.
