The US Armed Forces are focused on using less energy in the land, sea and air domains through more effective planning and an array of new technologies and equipment. A confluence of events is challenging the US Armed Forces to develop practices that will allow the services to accomplish their missions using less energy. From a policy perspective, the January 2012 military strategy "Sustaining US Global Leadership: Priorities for 21st Century Defense" directs the services to become increasingly mobile, agile and expeditionary in order to emphasise their presence in Asia Pacific and the Middle East.
