Unmanned systems launched a new chapter in aviation and maritime history, and AAI Unmanned Aircraft Systems has been at the forefront since its renowned SHADOW 200 Tactical UAS won a competitive fly-off by the US Army in 1999. Today, SHADOW systems have amassed nearly a million flight hours. The company's AEROSONDE Small UAS was the first in its class to complete an Atlantic crossing without refuelling. It also made history by navigating the eye and eye wall of Hurricane Noel in 2007. AAI Unmanned Aircraft Systems remains an industry-leading technology developer and systems integrator. Its SHADOW systems are in service with the US Army, USMC and Special Operations groups, as well as the Australian Defence Force and Swedish military. Italy is completing acceptance testing and airworthiness certification for its first SHADOW system. AAI Unmanned Aircraft Systems is upgrading US Army and USMC SHADOW systems to the all-digital V2 configuration, featuring the Tactical Common Data Link and Universal Ground Control Station (UGCS).
