Italy is the first country to deploy the NH-90 helicopter in an operational theatre. Late August, in fact, five NH-90 from the AVES (the Italian Army Aviation) started to be re-deployed in Afghanistan within the new Task Unit NEMO. This latter belongs to the Aviation Battalion FENICE bringing together all the rotary wing assets the Italian Army deploys with the heart-based Italian contingent. The NH-90 will join and gradually replace the AB-205 with similar tasks, including transport and Forward MEDEVAC.
