When Israel began operating UAS in the early 80's, many Armed Forces, especially Air Forces , looked at these small remotely controlled platforms as "toys" or as items that are not worth the hassle involved in operating them. Today, Israel is a leading UAS developer and manufacturer, selling its products to countries around the globe including super powers like the US and Russia. The same thing is about to happen to the multi layered anti rocket/ anti ballistic system Israel is developing and deploying. What is conceived now by many as a locally needed multi system will very quickly become an operational requirement for many countries. The problem is, as always, to forecast the needs. Israel was far sighted when more than 30 years ago, its Air Force and industry saw the need for UAS. This, in spite of the fact that the Israeli Air Force (IAF) has been large, well equipped, and well trained at that time. Thinking outside the box resulted in the many unique designs of UAVs made in Israel, those which are offered for export and those that will not be in that list for many years to come.
