The Swiss Federal Council has decided to amend the schedule for the planned acquisition of a new combat aircraft, intended to partially replace the current fleet of F-5E TIGER II fighters.rnComparative evaluations of the three final contenders - the Dassault RAFALE, the Eurofighter TYPHOON and the Saab GRIPEN NG - were carried out during 2008, and the final bids by the corresponding manufacturers were received earlier this year. Selection was expected to be announced during 2009,rnwith a contract to be then included in the Armaments Programme 2010. The Federal Council has now instructed the Department of Defence, Civil Protection and Sport (DDPS) to submit a report on the national security policy by December 2009. A decision on the partial replacement of the TIGERs will be taken only after that date, i.e. most likely in 2010.
