The far political left in America would have Washington drop US military power to levels beneath what is needed to guarantee security in an anarchic world. Meanwhile, the far political right would have the US multiply military power way above what's needed for a US President to fulfil his most important requirement as the Com-mander-in-Chief, which is to keep America secure in an anarchic world. A good national leader will rather refuse to bend toward either political extreme - which is why President Barack Obama has shown a sense of urgency toward making certain that US security policy is set for neither too much nor too little when it comes to actionable strategies for the reduction or containment of threats.
