Under the Trump Administration, the fate of the New Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty (New START) and the remnants of what used to be a comprehensive arms control framework, were extremely uncertain for years. Once it was clear that Joe Biden would indeed become the 46th US President, its future was all but assured. However, this fact alone does not mean that the way forward on nuclear issues will be straightforward or easy; in fact, the opposte appears more likely.
