The Department of Health has opted for a hybrid system for front of pack nutrition labelling which combines guideline daily amounts (GDAs), colour coding, and 'high'/'medium'/'low' text.The government says it will work with industry to iron out the finer details and design. The announcement comes after a three-month UK-wide consultation with retailers and manufacturers. Although it will not be compulsory for food manufacturers to use the labelling approach adopted, they will not be able to use alternative systems, such as different colours and pictorial representations.
