The CRC Energy Efficiency Scheme (previously Carbon Reduction Commitments) was the creation of the Labour Government, back in 2007, and it came into effect from April last year. The scheme aims to incentivise the uptake of energy efficiency measures in the public and non-energy intensive private sector through a combination of an energy efficiency league table and requiring organisations to report on and purchase carbon allowances for the energy they use.
