Dairy UK members are invited to join the milk contaminants testing programme which has just been introduced. Testing can help to establish a 'due diligence' defence should permitted limits be exceeded. The new testing scheme uses the ex-farm samples collected for payment purposes, and tests a small proportion of these. There is national coverage weighted in favour of the regions of greatest milk production. Participants will receive an annual report giving all results. The charge for this service is proportional to each participant's direct farm supplies and will be calculated in advance so that members can decide whether or not they wish to take part. It is expected that for many companies this could replace their current contaminant testing programme and provide better coverage at reduced cost.
