Norfolk cheese makers and farmers, Stephen and Catherine Temple, have scooped the 'Green Energy Farmer of the Year' award at the Farmers Weekly Awards. The Temples, who are members of Dairy UK, produce the Mrs Temple's Cheese range. They hand make their cheeses and use milk from the award-winning Chalk Farm Herd. Stephen and Catherine have converted an old cowshed to house the dairy, preserving an historic farm building. They have also pioneered on-farm anaerobic digestion using maize, slurry, whey and other products to generate electricity, which powers the farm and house and supplies the grid. The farm uses three sustainable biomass boilers to heat the grain store, provide hot water for the milking parlour and power the cheese business.
