In a statement issued after the first case of Bluetongue had been identified in the UK last month, Dairy UK pointed out that the disease had no implications for human health. "We are hopeful that the current case, which is not on a dairy farm, will not spread to create a general outbreak. When the weather becomes cooler, this should help contain the spread of the disease by subduing the midge population. The comments came after the disease was discovered in a Highland cow on Baylam House Farm, which keeps rare breeds, near Ipswich in Suffolk.
