As a dairy farmer I have always found study trips a great way to focus the mind on running my business by seeing what happens on farms in various parts of the world, while enjoying time away from the farm among like-minded dairy farming friends. On a recent visit to Hungary, I saw some extremely large dairy units, some managed appallingly and some managed very well. But, a common issue was that of heat stress on the cows as the temperature reached well above 30C every day while we were there.
