Speakers at the Waste360 Recycling Summit held earlier this month in Chicago discussed various issues that are relevant in the recycling industry today. Curbside recycling is commonplace among cities today. Representatives from two cities shared their experiences dealing with curbside recycling. Phil Bresee, Recycling Director for the City of Philadelphia, shared his city's curbside recycling story. Philadelphia handles curbside recycling ' for 530,000 households. Single-stream recycling was phased in 2008, with a switchover to weekly collection, he said. "Recycling tonnages are up 113 percent since 2008, with residual disposal tonnages down 18 percent," said Bresee.
