Good old STElf has been making me smile even more recently as we've been able to cover a good distance. Before this, though, I had one thing to fix. As I mentioned in the October issue I found a crack in the bottom hose at the end of the LSMOC track day and had to replace it. Chris Cook kindly gave me a second hand bottom hose, to get home from Goodwood if it blew, but realistically, changing the hose with a two-part radiator cowling, where the cowling has an upper and lower half, might have been a step too far if I had needed to change it by the side of the road. I ordered a generic Kevlar bottom hose from Mini Spares, which you then trim to size to fit the cooling system, as STElf isn't running the original engine and I wasn't 100 per cent sure which one I needed. It had been a while since I had removed the radiator from STElf, and it was a real faff, but I got there in the end. It turned into one of those skin-removing jobs that we all love.
