We first met Geoff and his son, Daniel, at a 16-Valve Mini Club sprint weekend where they were taking turns mullering their Suzuki-powered Mini around the track. And because it had two seats I had a thrash too. It went like stink, cornered as only a Mini can and was massively enjoyable. But the most amazing thing is it stands Geoff at about £1,500 including buying, restoring, painting and doing the conversion. All that work took just three months and the Mini passed its MOT first time. It only happens to other people.rnIt helps that he's handy with a welder and a toolkit but, even so, that's not far off the price of a tuned A-series motor but the Suzuki conversion included a five-speed gearbox. To add insult to injury, the lap-hearted Mini was completed almost two years ago and has done 15,000 fast miles without problems. Is this sort of conversion the way forward when 1275s disappear?
