So it is for Turkcell, who took time out from convincing investors at an investment conference in London to convince Mobile Europe that it is a great opportunity for investors. On 28 November, the company will bid, along with the other two operators, Avea and Vodafone Turkey, for 3G licenses in the country. There may even be a fourth market entrant. Once the process is over, Turkcell plans to launch directly with 7Mbps HSPA in most of the areas it covers. 3G coverage should therefore be completed by the middle of next year, allowing this market, which already has a significant value added services presence, despite punitive sales taxes and the lack of 3G, to really offer opportunity for growth. There was also growth opportunity being touted at a User Experience conference organised by technology provider NeuStar for its customers and prospective customers. NeuStar had assembled a quartet of operators to agree on the fact that IM does not cannibalise SMS, presenting as it does a different use case and meeting different communication needs.
