In this article I'm introducing a condition that I have encountered over the years in quite a few sighting witnesses, and even more frequently in close encounter experiencers. I've been labeling this as a "hyper-alert" condition. I'm sure other Field Investigators (FI), Experiencer Research Team (ERT) members, and those interested in the UFO phenomenon have also encountered this condition and are familiar with it, and might even have their own name for it. I originally called this state of mind a "hyper-vigilant state," but then decided "hyper-alert" was a bit more accurate. I've found that a good percentage of sighting report witnesses and, even more frequently, those who have had alien contact are in this state. After one or more absolutely amazing experiences in the course of an otherwise normal life, a person is on alert and may be interpreting every flickering shadow as an alien sneaking about, or seeing every slight twinkle in the sky as a visiting UFO. This state is often aggravated by not having anyone even halfway knowledgeable to seriously discuss the event(s) with. Although this condition may also afflict those watching too many YouTube videos, some hopeful CE-5 participants, and many individuals excited by "orb" photos they have taken of dust and bugs, I want to confine this article to ac-tual witnesses. I'm hoping to stimulate some thinking, and perhaps further discussion, as I feel this condition should be given consideration in sighting and experiencer CMS evaluations.
