摘要

After decades of research on nano-technologies, the interconnection and interworking of nano-machines have revealed new horizons with enormous potentials of tackling important issues of the human life, especially in the field of medicine. In this context, Molecular Communications is a rapidly increasing research area that aims to make use and re-engineering the existing communication mechanisms in biological environments. By making use of proteins, special properties of cells, bacteria, nucleic acids, adaptive tissue properties, and many other biological features, the research on Molecular Communications has demonstrated the possibility of carrying information through biological carriers and establish communications links in organs, blood and lymph vessels. Examples of applications of such mechanisms are targeted drug delivery, early tumor cell detection, prevention and monitoring of atherosclerosis, control of the immune response and many others.
