摘要

Mary gilmore-poet, journalist and activist-led a radical life. Brought up in rural New South Wales, she taught in isolated schools, campaigned for the poor, married in Paraguay in a Utopian community, and fought tirelessly for those in difficulty. Whether as a teacher, journalist, activist or mother, her approach to life was shaped by a keen sense of social justice. Born Mary Jean Cameron in 1865, near Goulburn in New South Wales, Gilmore was the child of settlers who left the cities behind to make new lives in the Australian bush. Her rural upbringing was formative; far from the refinements of a city education, Mary learned resourcefulness and independence.
