On he whole,souvenirs of british royal weddings can be classed as kitsch. There have always been several at the expensive end of the market, made of fine materials-objects like porcelain plates, commemorative coins, and silver or gold goblets-but the majority have been of poor quality, cheap and crude. Hidden away in the National Library of Australia's collection is an item that outshines most examples of the genre. It is W.H. Russell's The Wedding at Windsor: A Memorial of the Marriage ofH.R.H. Albert Edward, Prince of Wales, and H.R.H. Alexandra, Princess of Denmark, celebrating the marriage in London of the Prince and Princess on 10 March 1863.
