There is a physical limit to small, smaller, smallest. It is the intention of cfAED to break through this boundary by inventing tiniest parts of tinier chips in tiny new devices. Microelectronics is the driving force of innovation in many aspects of daily life. To keep this engine running and to strive for new applications that support ever-increasing demands on technology is the research objective of the Center of Excellence 'Center for Advancing Electronics Dresden' (cfAED). To achieve this objective, the cluster will tread on unknown ground as the current CMOS technology will reach its physical boundaries in the foreseeable future.
