摘要

Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is a prevalent developmental disorder. It is also a multifaceted, complex disorder. Such complexity is not unique to autism, of course, but it presents great challenges.SFARI has approached these challenges by recruiting and supporting scientists to conduct studies of gene discovery and mechanisms of gene action, and to explore how these actions might affect cognition and behavior. In addition to this bottom-up approach, we support top-down research, beginning with behavior and searching for underlying neural mechanisms that may be common to those with ASH. The magnitude of this effort is reflected in our budget of $60 million per year.
