While a single cure for cancer may not be realistic, a better understanding of cancer genomics will eventually help researchers develop more effective therapeutics and diagnostics. Over the years, by taking a closer look at the cancer genome, researchers have developed knowledge of how the disease works and the genetic processes involved in its proliferation. The next wave of tools, from next generation sequencing to digital RNA technologies, offer researchers a more sophisticated tool box to probe the genomics of cancer.
