摘要

In recent years it has become practically a truism to say that the Asia-Pacific region is growing rapidly as a power in science and technology research both in terms of quality and quantity, but what is less obvious is the relative performance of the individual countries within the region. The Nature Asia-Pacific Publishing Index provides one way to address this question. However, as pointed out at the beginning of this publication, it should be stressed that the rankings shown here represent only a portion, albeit in our opinion an important portion, of the work produced by scientists in the Asia-Pacific region.
