About 1,000 of the Tokyo Institute of Technology's 10,000 students are from overseas. Some of them study in Japanese. Others take part in programs that the university has developed to allow for studying and conducting research activities in English, including the International Graduate Program. In 2007, the university upgraded that program in accordance with a Japanese government policy of attracting more non-Japanese students.
